Harpal Singh Cheema can become Deputy CM if 'AAP' goes on in Punjab:

The results of the elections to 117 seats of the Punjab Assembly are being released today on Thursday. Since morning, political parties have also started preparations to celebrate. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Harpal Singh Cheema is making headlines. If the AAP forms a government in Punjab, Cheema can be given the post of deputy CM. He said before the results were released, the AAP was going to form a government in the state and there was no reason to doubt the exit polls.

AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema is the leader of the opposition in the Punjab assembly and MLA from the Dirba assembly constituency in the Sangrur district. Cheema had joined AAP ahead of the 2017 Punjab assembly elections. He then contested from Dirba assembly constituency in the 2017 Punjab assembly elections. He had entered the electoral fray against renowned Punjabi Kabbadi player Gulzar Singh Moonak. Moonak had contested on a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ticket.

Member of Legislative Assembly:

In a triangular fight from Dirba, he defeated Congress candidate Ajaib Singh Ratol and Shiromani Akali Dal’s Gulzar Singh.

Leader of opposition:

In Fifteenth Punjab Legislative Assembly Aam Aadmi Party was the main opposition party. Cheema served as the leader of opposition[6] with Saravjit Kaur Manuke as the deputy leader of opposition.

Career:

A graduate from Government Ranbir College, Sangrur, and having done his LLB from Punjabi University, Patiala, he also participated in student politics as a member of some Left-leaning student outfits while studying law. He led the Sangrur Bar Association in 2014. As a lawyer, he is also fighting AAP’s Delhi MLA Naresh Yadav’s case in the district courts over accusations of Quran desecration in Malerkotla in 2016.

Harpal Singh Cheema:

Harpal Singh Cheema (born 10 February 1974) is an Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Dirba Assembly Constituency located in Sangrur District, Punjab. He joined the Aam Aadmi Party just before the 2017 Punjab Legislative Assembly election. He contested from Dirba Assembly Constituency against a popular Punjabi Kabbadi player Gulzar Singh Moonak from Shiromani Akali Dal and Ajaib Singh Ratolan from Indian National Congress.
