Miami had a pretty bad reputation in the 1980s. Today it might be seen as a glitzy beachside city peppered with exclusive clubs, but most of that has to do with Miami Vice. When the show went into production, Miami was mostly known as a rundown, Jewish retirement community. The only people who were moving to the area was an influx of Cuban and other Latin American immigrants. Miami Vice came in to film the show and ended up helping to reinvent the city
