Patiala Clash Has a Lesson for Bhagwant Mann:

The clash that took place in Patiala on Friday, 29 April, is the first major law and order challenge for the newly elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab and especially for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

All the Opposition parties – Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – are targeting AAP for what they claim is "failing law and order in the state."

Four hurt in Patiala clash, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann orders inquiry:

Four persons, including two police personnel, were injured when members of two groups clashed over a protest here this afternoon. The administration imposed a night curfew in the district.
Following the incident, CM Bhagwant Mann ordered an inquiry into the clash and directed the police top brass to ensure the culprits behind the incident were punished.
A week ago, Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) state working president Harish Singla had announced an “anti-Khalistan march” in the city, which was opposed by some Sikh hardliners. The police had asked both sides not to carry out any march.
Amid rumours, some Sikh hardliners today reached Kali Mata Mandir and both groups pelted each other with stones. Some protesters were seen brandishing swords. In the melee, some Sikh hardliners tried to enter the temple premises, where an unidentified person opened fire, injuring one of the protesters.

Punjab govt dissolves 20 welfare boards, to be reconstituted soon:

The Punjab government on Thursday dissolved 20 welfare boards, including Dalit Welfare Board, Parvasi Welfare Board and Kamboj Welfare Board, with immediate effect, paving the way for their reconstitution.
These boards set up for the welfare of various communities will be reconstituted soon with the appointment of new office-bearers, persons familiar with the development said.
The boards, which have been dissolved, include Bazigar and Tapprivas Welfare Board, Brahman Welfare Board, Khatri Arora Welfare Board, Dalit Welfare Board, Rai Sikh Welfare Board, Rajput Kalyan Welfare Board, Saini Welfare Board, Prajapat Welfare Board, Ramgarhia Welfare Board, Aggarwal Welfare Board, Gujjar Welfare Board, Swarankar Welfare Board, Punjab Muslim Welfare Board, Saini Welfare Board, Kanojia Welfare Board and Masih Bhalai Welfare Board.

Sacrilege accusations against Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann as he enters Gurudwara in drunken state, SGPC and SAD seek apology, AAP refutes:

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) alleged on Friday, April 15, that the Punjab chief minister and AAP leader Bhagwant Singh Mann had entered Takht Damdama Sahib in a drunk state on the occasion of Baisakhi, which was celebrated across the country on April 14. The organisation has demanded an apology from the Punjab Chief Minister for the same. The SGPC is in charge of the management of Sikh shrines in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh.
In a statement issued in Amritsar, SGPC senior vice president Raghujit Singh Virk stated that the chief minister visited a highly revered spiritual site of the Sikh community while under the influence of alcohol and “violated the Sikh rehat maryada (code of conduct).”

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which is responsible for the management of Sikh shrines in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh, alleged on Friday that chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had entered into Takht Damdama Sahib in an inebriated condition. The organisation also sought an apology from the Punjab CM.
In a release issued in Amritsar, SGPC senior vice president of Raghujit Singh Virk said that the chief minister under the influence of alcohol visited a highly respected spiritual site of the Sikh community and “violated the Sikh rehat maryada (code of conduct)". He asked Mann to admit his mistake and apologise to the entire Sikh community.
